By Wan Muhammad Hafiz Bin Zainuddin
With its perfect blend of modern innovation, deep-rooted tradition, and endless energy, Tokyo is a city that deserves more than just a fleeting visit. From ancient temples to futuristic cityscapes, every neighbourhood offers something new to discover. Here’s how to make the most of a week in Japan’s vibrant capital.

Start your Tokyo adventure in Shibuya, home to the world-famous Shibuya Crossing. Soak in the city’s electric atmosphere before heading to Shibuya Sky, an observation deck offering panoramic views of the skyline. From here, take the train to Shinjuku, a district that comes alive at night. Stroll through Omoide Yokocho for classic yakitori, explore the neon-lit streets of Kabukicho, and visit Golden Gai, a collection of tiny, nostalgic bars perfect for a drink to end the night.

Day 2: Explore Asakusa and Sumida

Step back in time at Asakusa, home to Sensō-ji, Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple. Wander through Nakamise Street, where you can snack on traditional sweets like ningyo-yaki (red bean-filled cakes). For a contrast, cross the Sumida River to visit the Tokyo Skytree, one of the tallest towers in the world. End your day with a riverside walk at Sumida Park, especially beautiful during cherry blossom season.

Art lovers should stop by the Tokyo National Museum, while nature enthusiasts can take a relaxing stroll through the park’s serene gardens. In the afternoon, head to Akihabara, Tokyo’s mecca for anime, manga, and gaming. Whether you’re browsing themed cafés, exploring massive electronic stores, or immersing yourself in the world of otaku culture, this district is a paradise for pop culture fans.

A short walk away is Meiji Shrine, an oasis of calm surrounded by lush forest. From here, explore Omotesando, a stylish boulevard lined with designer stores and sophisticated cafés.

Kamakura: This coastal town is famous for its Great Buddha (Daibutsu), Hasedera Temple, and scenic hiking trails leading to stunning ocean views. Both destinations offer a refreshing break from Tokyo’s fast-paced energy.
