How To Survive The ‘Snowmaggedon’ in NYC
The winter storm Juno recently cast down massive amounts of snow in the United States’ northeastern part, which included New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The National Weather Service described the storm as “life-threatening” and probably the worst in history, forcing New York City to suspend all public transport and car travel, affecting thousands of residents. New Yorkers may already be used to snow storms (as they come every three to six years), but for tourists unluckily stuck in the Big Apple during a huge blizzard, here are 3 tips on how one can cope:
1 Stay In
Inches of snow outside your hotel may be a tempting invitation to finally build that snowman, but by all means, resist. Aside from snowfall, blizzards also come with extremely high and cold winds, which can cause hypothermia. During a blizzard as such, it would be best to stay in, as well as keep hydrated and well-nourished!
2 Stock Up
Speaking of keeping hydrated and well-nourished, remember to stock up a lot of water and food in case the storm hits really hard, forcing restaurants and shops to completely close down. Aside from that, have a supply of batteries for your flashlights ready in the event of a power outage.
3 Entertain
Being holed up in a room for long hours can definitely drive some people crazy, so make sure you have enough entertainment to keep you sane. Keep the laptop charged and watch your favourite TV series and movies, listen to some calming music or commit to finishing that book you’ve started reading months ago!
