A Japanese Culinary Journey
The concept of Omakase could surprise many, especially as there is no ala carte menu for diners to order from. Derived from the Japanese phrase of “I’ll leave it up to you”, the dining concept has been a mainstay culinary tradition in Japan for centuries.
With no permanent menu, diners are treated to whatever the chef decides to cook and serve for the day. Sou Omakase, housed at the Ground Floor of The Gardens Mall, has taken that tradition to new and inventive heights with set lunches and dinners that showcase a smorgasbord of Japanese cuisine and cooking techniques.
Yokohama born Chef Fukuchi and his team masterfully create a number of new and appetizing dishes each day, all made with ingredients that are both fresh and seasonal. And the results of it are surprisingly delicious to say the least.
Freshness Is Key
The menu selection at Sou Omakase is derived and inspired by what’s fresh and seasonal. Chef Fukuchi’s unenviable task is to transform those dishes into innovative creations for diners. On our recent visit, Abalone was the key offering of the day, and the Chef ensured the freshness of the item by grilling a live Abalone at the dinner table before serving it with a special sauce and freshly grated wasabi.
Inventive Cuisine
But freshness is only one aspect of the appeal at Sou Omakase. Undoubtedly the fresh sashimi, which the chef presents himself before preparation, is pleasantly surprising but the true measure of the dining experience comes with the inventive items that find their way to the table.
Heartwarming traditional soups accented with chrysanthemum give way to a floral finish with every mouthful. Chef Fukuchi’s take on the grilled lamb is also something to be admired as it comes piping hot and sizzling with rich brown gravy.
An Appetizing Experience
Six-course lunch menus are priced from RM118++ with a nine-course dinner priced around RM370++. The pricing structure is largely dependent on what the key and seasonal ingredient is but diners are virtually guaranteed an appetizing and fulfilling Japanese culinary experience.
With chef Fukuchi and his team meticulously creating menus each day, every visit to Sou Omakase is bound to be different and that truly extends the appeal of this Japanese restaurant. And with inventive, fresh and delectable creations on offer each day, Sou Omakase undoubtedly serves up a culinary adventure that is second to none.
All you need to do is to come with an open mind and an empty stomach.
